The Pneumatic Systems Online Course was developed to help pilots transitioning to their first turbine-powered aircraft. This course is part of The Airline Transition Program and will help teach the learner relevant information on pneumatics, to be better prepared for aircraft systems training. You’ll be taught all the foundational knowledge you’ll need to excel during aircraft systems class.

Pneumatic Systems Online Course

The Turbine Engine Theory course is the first of the fourteen total courses that make up The Airline Transition Program.

In this course, the learner will be taught Bleed Air Components, Air Conditioning Packs, Pressurization Systems, Icing Meteorology, Ground Deicing, and In-Flight Anti-Icing Operations. The content within this course has not been developed to be "aircraft type-specific," but more generalized to easily explain and present the complex operational theory in advanced pneumatic systems.

The in-depth knowledge that will be taught in this course will prepare the learner for Aircraft Systems Training at his or her first airline.

  • This course contains 1 hr 29 minutes of video lecture, and 30 pages of textual content.

This course requires no external materials. All supplemental text material will be provided below and from within the course once the learner has enrolled. To successfully pass this course, the learner must complete a series of interactive quizzes with a corrected minimum score of 100%. Quizzes will contain questions derived from the material that has been taught from within this course. The quiz will include true/false, multiple-choice, and completion questions.

Air Conditioning Packs

Learn how an air conditioning pack (or package) operates, and what essential functions it serves.

Pressurization Systems

Learn about the basic operating principles of pressurization systems, some regulations and design considerations, and cabin pressure controllers and their various modes of operation.

Icing Meteorology

Learn about how and why ice forms, the different types of ice, and their operational implications.

Ground Deicing

Learn about when an aircraft needs to be deiced, what fluids are used, and how to calculate how long the fluid remains good for (holdover charts).

In Flight Anti Icing

Learn about the various types of inflight icing protection systems, and how ice detection systems work.
